Curtis A Bateman, CEO

Blending operational excellence and people skill for extraordinary results

Curtis Bateman began his career over fifteen years ago managing customer service operations for a subscription software firm, where he was responsible for developing training programs, materials, and support processes, including a case management software system. Curtis subsequently relocated to the U.K., where he eventually assumed all sales and operational responsibility for the company's operations outside North America. Following his return to the U.S., Curtis subsequently leveraged his exceptional knowledge of how to get companies "up and running" as a consultant for various startup companies. He worked with technology, debt management, and telephony firms, designing integrated solutions, crafting global marketing plans, and bringing projects online and on-schedule.

These experiences led Curtis to develop the deep customer familiarity that would become a hallmark of his career. He also gained an affinity for the power of change management, which led him to accept the position of general manager at Spencer Johnson Partners (SJP) in 2005. He was named as CEO two years later.

Since joining SJP, Curtis has led several significant accomplishments: the movement of inventory management–once outsourced–to within the company; the creation of a defined and predictable sales process; and the creation of a suite of products much more aligned to individual customer needs.

This last development excites Curtis the most. He notes, "We now have the ability to deliver a truly individualized approach for every customer. Of course, we continue to offer and improve our tried and true, standardized products. But at the same time, we now have the ability to deliver nearly real-time, increasingly customized solutions for companies with truly unique needs. This enables our clients, in turn, to bring fresh, relevant new ideas to their own organizations."

Under Curtis's leadership, Spencer Johnson Partners has also branched out into multiple product lines. Who Moved My Cheese?, for example, is now available in customized versions for executives, leaders and employees. SJP continues to be positioned for long-term involvement in the marketplace through the creation of relevant products that meet the needs of today's changing organizations.
